UT-BASH stands for University of Toledo Benevolent Adventurers' Strategic Headquarters.
Is there a cost to join?
Our dues are $10 per year for all members. "Join" page for more info.
What are the benefits of membership?
Members may check out gaming materials from our library, including board games, card games, manuals and other materials. In addition, members who are UT students, pay dues, fill out a membership form, and attend two meetings gain voting rights, allowing them to help steer the organization.
Do you play X? When and where?
For a partial list of our scheduled games & events, see the "Events" page. In addition, there are countless informal games daily in and around the BASH office.
BASHLAN-related questions.
What is a LAN party?
LAN stands for Local Area Network. A LAN party is where many people bring their computers to a single location and play networked games on a local area network. We do this partially because the connection speeds on a local area network are much better than they can ever be on the internet. However, we mostly do it because playing games is the most fun when you're playing them with other people, and the internet is a poor substitute for flesh and blood.
I've never been to a LAN party. What should I bring?
You should bring your computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, a 15' or longer ethernet cable, a power strip/surge protector, and your two power cables (for the computer and the monitor). We will not allow people to use speakers because they draw extra power and create an incredible amount of noise with ten or more people.
I don't have any of the games on your site. Why don't you guys play X?
If we don't have anything you play, we're always ready to try new games.
If you want to play a game not listed on the site, go post about it in the forums and I guarantee 2-5 people will say "I like that game too. I've been looking for people to play that with at a LAN."
We list on the site what seems to be the most popular in the BASH office at UT, on the forums, and in our own personal gaming in the weeks leading up to a LAN party. Don't be discouraged if you see games you don't like. It's very easy at a LAN party to stand up and shout "Hey, let's play X, I'll start a server."
I forgot my power strip/ethernet cable/power cable/headphones. Do you have any extras?
Do not forget your power strip/ethernet cable/power cable/headphones.
What's there to eat at your LAN parties?
The University of Toledo Student Union has a food court right below both the rooms where we hold our LANs. In this food court you can find KFC, Subway, Magik Wok, Pizza Hut and Backyard Burgers. There's also Starbucks and a smoothie/wrap deli, and two ATM machines.
Why don't you have a cover charge?
Why should we? It doesn't cost us anything to use University of Toledo rooms, everybody in UT-BASH lends equipment and helps out, and we have good relationships with several sponsors to provide prizes. If any of these things becomes an expense in the future, we will begin to charge for the LAN Parties.
I don't want to bring my whole computer and I don't have a laptop. Do you have any computers set up for public gaming?
We do not generally have computers set up for public use. Our LAN parties are Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC).
What does BASHLAN stand for?
BASH stands for Benevolent Adventurers Strategic Headquarters. BASH is the University of Toledo's gaming club and BASHLAN's parent organization. BASH members are fans of everything from card games like Magic to console gaming to computer gaming to board games like Risk or Settlers of Canaan. If you go to UT, stop by our office sometime.
